I see that people are slamming those london bars for bending too quick... and now some people who aren't me... are insisting people stop buying light weight stuff....

I can't really say anything bad about london bikes.... my own personal experiences with the queen vics were great...
sure my bars got down sweeped like the dudes in the pic... but that took 3 years and 3 owners to happen...
I bent them back, and rode them some more...

and i saw that clint dude riding at the contest I got hurt at... he's by no means easy on his bike... He's a big dude, and if the london stuff was flimsy as hell, his whole bike would have melted...
Clints a testament to london bikes quality if you ask me... if it can hold up to him riding it... it can't be that flimsy..

but yeah... the overly light weight stuff needs to go....

I think it goes beyond light vs a little heavier. I think people are coming around to nankai winning the freecoaster design war. Lots of people tried sealed and are now returning to good old loose ball tech.

These issues are due to multiple issues.

1. (Design) Some parts dont have access to hi technology (double butting etc).
2. (Even Stress) A bike has to have parts of similar strength to evenly distribute stresses.
3. (Hope) Too many riders are still buying parts not suited to their riding as they are either uneducated or the temptation of lighter weight is too great.

.... just to name a few.

On the plus side, this credit crunch has opened more doors for custom for those who want/need it.

Yeah, agreed...
you can make heavy shitty parts just as you can make light ones....
that kgb I had that melted would be considered too heavy for most today....

not everyone in bmx is an engineer.... they just buy stuff based on reviews, which often times are written by people who just like the look of a product and haven't actually written it... look over in nazi germany... theres reviews for parts that aren't even out yet... Rolling Eyes

do any of you notice that now more and more companies offer a one off custom frame? i think this has something to do with the economic situation that forces them to do whatever it takes to make bucks.... a good thing for us the riders though.. a few good years ago it cost around us$ 800 just to make a custom frame now we can make one just for a bit above us$350. and we're talking about US made frame, if that even matter. coz it's impossible to make a custom frame from Taiwan.

id say its a combination of the economy, and the lack of a large selection of decent frames.... you might see a frame thats not too light, but it might not come in the tt length you like, or the ht angle you like...
Right now theres only 2 or 3 newer frames out I would buy stock...
the custom stuff is most certainly the shit...
Even the quamen I had made custom wasn't that much... and it was worth every penny....

Eitherway, its good for the real riders... it gives the riders a choice away from the poser parts... im glad to see some companies are listening...
Those companies I have nothing but respect for...
Plus, more money goes to the company that deserves it instead of a middle man...
Im all for supporting companies who offer something for riders that choose function over trend...

Some how though... I have a strange feeling custom is going to be a trend sooner or later... some how I think the economic conditions and crap quality of parts in the market are going to push custom to be the next trend...
