Announcement: Felipe Massa on the road to recovery
Posted: STONECOLD @ Wed Aug 05, 2009 5:55 pm
Felipe Massa has delivered a resounding vote of thanks to family, friends, his doctors and a myriad of well-wishers who aided his recovery following life-saving surgery.

Massa is now back home in Sao Paulo after being released from the AEK military hospital in Budapest where he had spent the previous nine days.

Although still sporting a swollen left eye and deep gash where he was struck by flying debris which fractured his skull during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, Massa is firmly on the mend.

And the 28-year-old believes the care and prayers of so many people ensured he was back on his feet quicker than expected.

'First of all I want to thank God,' said Massa, who spent the first two days following the operation in a medically-induced coma. 'Then I want to thank the doctors at the track and at Budapest's AEK hospital, who have done a lot for me, and Dino Altmann (his personal physician), who came with my family from Brazil and who was extraordinary over the last few days.

'But I also want to thank everybody who prayed and who wrote to me, hoping that everything went well.

'So many people wrote to me, including many who aren't interested in Formula One but had heard about what happened to me.

'Thank you so much, and I want to tell them that I'm also praying for them. I would have done the same if an accident had happened to another driver.'

ighlighting the pivotal role of his family, Massa added: 'They are important to me. They have always been close to me during my career; victories, defeats, and the most difficult moments.

'There was only Edoardo (his brother) in Budapest when the accident happened, but then Raffaela (his wife, who is six months pregnant), my father, my mother and then my sister came to Hungary.

'I know they've suffered a lot and I want to thank them, and then there's another family I have to thank - the Ferrari family.

'They were great, they helped us in any possible way and it's a g...

Announcement: Button wins in Oz while Lewis gets promoted to third
Posted: STONECOLD @ Sun Mar 29, 2009 12:28 pm

Jenson Button secured a dream debut victory for the Brawn GP team after dominating the Australian Grand Prix.

The Englishman led throughout and team-mate Rubens Barrichello completed a Brawn one-two after a dramatic finish.

The Brazilian was promoted after Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and BMW's Robert Kubica collided while disputing second place with three laps to go.

Toyota's Jarno Trulli was hit with a 25-second penalty after the race giving Lewis Hamilton an unexpected third.

Clinching an eventual podium finish from 18th on the grid was a superb achievement for the British world champion, given the woeful performance of his McLaren coming into the race.

But all eyes were on Brawn after the chequered flag, with the success of the former Honda team - whose survival was only secured by team boss Ross Brawn in early March - firmly capturing the imagination of the sport as it enters a fresh era under new rules.

Victorious Button secured the second win of his 154-race Formula 1 career after driving coolly throughout, showcasing Brawn's speed to keep Red Bull's Vettel at bay for the vast majority of the race to eventually cruise to a finish behind the safety car.

"This is a fairytale ending for the first race," said Button.

"Some people may say its a pity the race finished under the safety car but I don't care, I won the race and that's all I care about."

Vettel looked set for a brilliant second place but he and Kubica tangled on Turn Three with just three laps remaining.

The Red Bull driver was slow through the first two corners, allowing Kubica to get alongside on the outside.

The Pole gave Vettel room, but the Red Bull's front wheel tagged the rear wheel of the BMW.

That tipped both into a spin, and damaged their front wings.

Announcement: F1 almost lost Williams
Posted: STONECOLD @ Sat Jan 24, 2009 7:01 pm

It appears as if Formula One almost lost one of its greatest independent teams due to the current economic crisis, the fact that the FIA introduced all the new cost cutting regulations the main thing making them decide to continue on.

The team almost lost was none other than Williams F1 with Sir Frank Williams revealing to the Financial Times just how close they were to walking away from the pinnacle of Motorsports after losses in the past two years, but now it is as if he has been given a fresh start…..

“Given the financial pressure we are under, the consequent changes to the rules to reduce the cost of racing are a major benefit,” Williams told the Financial Times. “We need to make a profit. To be successful and to be certain of staying in business, we need to be successful financially too. So, we need to make a profit every year. We’ve lost in the last two years, or three, I think, but we have the reserves and resource to manage that.”

Adam Parr, the team’s chief executive, also revealed that they had reached their limit as far as funds were concerned.

“I think it would be fair to say we have reached a point where further borrowing is not acceptable to the board of this company,” he said.

The FT claims that Williams have lost almost 50 million pounds in the past two years.

Announcement: Lewis Hamilton honoured with MBE
Posted: STONECOLD @ Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:29 am

2008 Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours list for services to motor racing. The recognition comes after the young Brit was crowned the 2008 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Champion in a dramatic final race of the season in Brazil, becoming the youngest ever Champion of the sport.

“It is a massive honour and incredible privilege for me to receive an MBE from Her Majesty The Queen. It is the most amazing culmination to what has been quite a year for me. The support I have received from the UK as a whole has been fantastic and a huge motivation, it is something I am very appreciative of,” Lewis said. “This is not just a proud moment for me, but also for my family and every single person involved with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team. I could not have achieved any of this without them.”

“It has been an outstanding year for British sport as a whole, and it is great to see so many fellow sportsmen and women being honoured today. I am also very humbled to be included on the Honours list alongside all the members of the general public who have been recognised for their tireless work in such varied and worthwhile arenas. I am very fortunate to have been awarded for achieving my dream, it has required a lot of hard work and dedication, however it has been worth every single minute and I only hope that I can inspire young kids to do the same, whatever their dream may be.”

Announcement: Is it time to bring back tobacco sponsorship to F1?
Posted: STONECOLD @ Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:27 pm
Photo-Heinz-Harald Frentzen in tobacco sponsored FW19.
At a time when the car industry is on it's knees and the banking system is in meltdown i believe that other than cutting costs in F1 which as we all know is a very tough thing to do we now need to allow tobacco companies to show their brand.

The only reason it is not shown now is because of unelected beaurocrats in the European Union who do nothing except tell everyone how to live and come out with bull crap ideas such as banning bendy bananas (Directive no. 2257/94 of 16th september 1994) and banning the sponsorship of tobacco.

The reason people smoke isn't because they saw it on a Touring car or an F1 car but because they see their mates doing it or their parents doing it and just think they look daft and not part of the group if they don't do it.

I myself do not smoke anymore but the reason i did was because of all my mates and my dad.

I think that Marlboro should be applauded for staying with Ferrari and not running away when the little hitlers outlawed it!!

Bring back the tobacco sponsorship and allow F1 to live once again!!!

Announcement: Ecclestone exposes Ferrari special deal

Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One commercial rights-holder, launched a stinging attack on Luca di Montezemolo yesterday, effectively telling the Ferrari president to mind his own business, in the wake of the latter’s criticisms of the way Ecclestone is running the sport.

Speaking at the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy, this week, Di Montezemolo said that Formula One was not being run in what he called a “normal” manner, that the sport did not need a “dictator”, in a remark taken as a reference to Ecclestone, and that teams wanted more of the sport’s vast income and greater transparency from Ecclestone about the extent of that money. “We want to know more about the revenues,” he said.

An angry Ecclestone told The Times that Di Montezemolo should be the last person to be complaining about how much income the teams receive. “The only thing he has not mentioned is the extra money Ferrari get above all the other teams and all the extra things Ferrari have had for years – the ‘general help’ they are considered to have had in Formula One,” Ecclestone said.

It has always been known that Ferrari, whose presence on the grid is regarded as critical to the success and prestige of the championship, are on a special deal with Ecclestone’s company and get more money than their rivals. But Ecclestone put a figure on that for the first time yesterday, something that may be designed to drive a wedge between the Scuderia and the other teams.

“Ferrari get so much more money than everyone else,” he said. “They know exactly what they get, they are not that stupid, although they are not that bright, either. They get about $80 million (about £54 million) more. When they win the constructors’ championship, which they did this year, they got $80 million more than if McLaren had won it.”

Announcement: Are Peugeot about to enter F1?
Posted: STONECOLD @ Tue Dec 09, 2008 10:25 pm
Picture - Prost Peugeot AP04
Among the more interesting rumours regarding potential buyers of the Honda F1 team is one that puts PSA Peugeot-Citroen, the French car manufacturing giant, in the frame as an interested party.

Many sources have commented on this story and while it may seem to be far-fetched on first reading, nothing is impossible in the current state of affairs.

PSA have previously dipped a toe in the waters of F1 with unsuccessful engine supplies – notably to Mclaren, Jordan and Prost – and are a noted motor sport entity, having just secured a fifth successive World Rally Championship title – under the Citroen banner – with Sebastien Loeb at the wheel.

In addition, Peugeot have been active in the sportscar racing world, fielding Le Mans 24-hours entries and with forays into other major races in the category over the past few years.

The current problems in the automobile industry have been deftly handled by the French government who, rather than simply shoring up the business, have offered various incentive schemes, and the industry in that country is very much geared up towards the green initiatives that prevail in the sector.

In short, whole PSA have been forced to shed staff like most of the motorcar world, the opportunity to enter F1 with a viable and fully operational outfit such as that on offer from Honda - and at a very low price- may be one that the French outfit considers too good to miss.

Meanwhile, Dave Richards, of Prodrive, has not denied an interest in the Honda team, but is being very much guarded with his comments at the moment.
