Hello all, I was recommended to check into this site by, I believe, Rob R after contacting a group on Facebook about smoking. I'm going tomorrow to scout out which size WSM I want to get and will hopefully be ordering one to be here when I get back from northern Alberta in a couple weeks and I'm hoping to find some good sources on wood to use in it. I've become a recent addict of smoked food after a visit to Texas Pride BBQ just outside of San Antonio and having the best meal of my life.
I was a little industrious today and after having read that ornamental apple trees can be good I attacked the apple tree I've been cursing at every fall and found most of the lower part to have fairly severe wood rot in the center. Would the outer portion that is still solid be ok to use?
I can't post images until I get the 5 posts, basically a limb that is about 7" diameter has the center 4" basically like sawdust. The outer 1/2" ring is still solid.
