that I'm cooking?

No, the stoker is stand alone also. It CAN be hooked to a computer or wirelessly connected to look at all kinds of temp. graphs and meat temps.
I built a simple on/off fan controller. I don't have any of the cool bells and whistles.

No not really, I cook on it everytime I get a chance. It uses alot of fuel, but mainly because it is so large. It really does a good job on ribs and chicken. Thanks for the comps.

The raised grate did work, the oven had no problems making 250*, so i just need to try it on a long cook, to see if it saves lump.

I plan on testing the temperature controller this weekend. I have also made a mod to the charcoal grate. It will decrease the amount of coal that is burning by about 100 cu. inches. If the oven will still make temperature this should save some lump, theoretically.

The match test indicated only 14 leaks in the 4 connections.
I accidentally left it on in the oven with a can of hickory chips above it for the test for 30 minutes or so. I stopped the test because the oven was ready to cook, but i wasn't. I just need a regulator because the flames were kinda yellow instead of blue. Barry is going to kill me. But it was an accident, scouts honor.

There ya go -- work smarter not harder.

When I used to preheat the cook chamber with the weedburner, I'd basically just blast the shelves and the walls to get the steel a little warm. I wouldn't worry about actually getting the cook chamber up to temp. If the steel is warm, that will help heat up the cook chamber. But now that I use the Stoker, I don't even preheat the shelves or walls anymore since I'm not waiting on the natural draw through the ashbox and chute into the cook chamber.
I got tired of preheating the oven with the weed burner. There just wasn't a good place to point it, had to leave the door partially open, and i couldn't pre heat and fire the coals at the same time. I picked up a turkey burner at Academy $13.00, and 2 cast iron welding rods $13.00, i will check for leaks with a match and see how she does. Also put a couple thumb screws in for the big removable door, won't need tools to get access now. I will run the turkey burner pipe thru the big door, giving make-up air from the outside, the burner will sit under my existing tuning plates.
