Greetings from Rochester, NY
My son and I have been bbq'ing for about 8 years.
We both own Brinkman horizontal smokers.
Not much smoking going on in the winter months as we both struggle to maintain temp.
My son turned me on to this site and we decided to build a clone this spring as a father & son project.
My son, a woodworker, wants to learn how to weld and work with metal.
He does a lot more bbq'ing than I do, so the first one will be his.
I plan to build one (maybe smaller) for myself a little later on.
I have spent 10 to 12 hours looking at posts on this site, and see that there is wealth of knowledge here (and pretty friendly people) so i am getting excited for our up coming project. I will be asking a lot of questions! My son wants his mounted on a trailer, so there is a lot to figure out. I need to get the design done before fishing season cranks up. |

And I am said son, re-located down in Philadelphia. My love of BBQ all came from Dad and what he can turn out on his smoker. I'm really looking forward to learning how to weld, and look forward to meeting you all. |

Thanks for the reply and the welcoming.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Work has been eating up all my free time.
Time to get serious on the design.
I am going to start with the fire box and charcoal chute.
Should I try to incorporate fire bricks (like the ones used in a kiln)
Or just stick with 1/2 in plate in the lower section.
Should I be asking this here or in another section? |

Best to bring your questions to the "clone builders list" forum or the "equipment" forum. |

Forgot to answer your fishing question.
We mainly troll for the trout and salmon in Lake Ontario.
We have been at it since the early 80's
It is not like it used to be, but still pretty good!
Since the arrival of the gobies, the smallmouth have disappeared.
Sure miss that fishery! Are you a fisherman?
What is you target fish? |

Welcome to the best forum on the web!
Of course I lean toward good food and good people!
What are Gobies? Are they the pretator fish I have seen on the TV? |
