jet_deck, that is a really interesting design. Are you planning on putting a shelf below the rotisserie? |

Yes, to the shelves. Probably a couple on one side. I got the geometry fixed, the shelves rotate correctly now. I will leave the rotisserie where it is. If i moved it down into the box more, they shelves would not "present" themselves to well. You would have to lean down into the box to get anything out. |

Hey, that looks OK, but where is the access going to be? They will be able to be completely removed for cleaning. Is the lid going to be hinged so you can get at the rotating shelves? |

Top 1/4 door and small side access planned. Will the high temp silicone stand up by itself? Can i redo it if it gets messed up every 3 months or so, or, do i really need to buy the rope stuff? I just figured that a nice round bead of silicone would stick around, but i don't know. If this thing gets any bigger, i might need to add another 5' of 8" gravity feed. In Story's pictures it looked like he was pre-heating the box with the propane torch. This maybe necessary here too. I need some of you non-newbies input.... |

I use the weed burner through the ash box area to light the charcoal in the bottom of the chute. I just use the weed burner for about 5 minutes then pull it out. I then shut the ash box door and the Stoker fan gets me up to temp in about 30 minutes.
I used to have to use the weed burner on the shelves before a cook -- just to get the shelves and inside walls in the cook chamber heated a little. Otherwise it was taking me 2 hours to get up to cooking temp. |

I use a weed burner simply to light the charcoal in the chute. I never empty the chute so I light the charcoal in there. Steve I believe uses the weed burner to heat up the metal inside the smoker as well. Personally i just start the weed burner while I prepare the meat and load it; by then things are pretty sufficiently heated up.
What ever works for you. I just thing emptying the chute every time and starting it with a chimney full is a lot of extra work when a weed burner is like a self starter. |

Jet_deck, how are you routing the heat/smoke into the cooking chamber? Side or bottom? |
