Thinking of adding a gravity feed on the side of an old fridg I'm working on. I dont see why it would not work 6x6 44" tall 8x10 fire box 3x5 inlet in to the fridg and insulate the shute. I have read most of the post what
do you pros think. This is my first build. My bud has an old fridg just
puts lump in pan in bottom ribs 5hrs butts 7hrs nothing fancy no temp
gauge just cooks. I'm in the middle of removing all the plastic replacing it
with stainles on mine. Thanks for any input good or bad Del
]Will and pics i gess when I post 5 times I tried. |

You should be able to. If you look at the new Stump's Elite smoker the heat source is detachable. You could use the same engineering to add a GF fire box to pretty much anything that cooks vertical. |

You could look at insulating the firebox part, but it is not really necessary to insulate the chute itself. Keep us posted on your build. BTW-- welcome to the forum dp34. |

I really don't think the chute will get hot to touch if you have a good seal on the lid. It may get warm, but not hot. |

Del, did you leave the original insulation in the walls? I hope you did, because that is very good insulation that they used in the fridges. Must be nice to be able to afford stainless for the inside liner. How much do you have to pay for SS down there? Looks good so far. Keep us posted. |

Del I used an old fridge to cook in over 30 years ago. I had an old tip top tin stove and a 6 inch smoke pipe goin into it at the bottom and for vent holes at the top I let her have it with a 12 guage shotgun a couple of times in the top *6 shot if I remember right. did the trick I never had a heat guage either cooked by smell Bill in thoes days.
