She is cooling down now.I lit er at 8 am on saturday and kept popping different things in till about 2:30 Sunday afternoon.First impression is that she is a charcoal eating SOB.Then reallity was that I did some things that made the consumption much worse.I didnt take the time to set up a table there to work so when I was foiling butts or otherwise messing around with the meat in there the door was kept open for an unreasonable time.I know that more than once the guru read below 100 degrees when I closed the door after being in there.I also ran her with the chimney damper wide open.I think using the Guru I dont need to have this open all the way .All food finished out good. The comp practice butt was one of the better I have done.Next weekend she will get around 2 cases of butts to do and a couple racks of practice ribs.As with any new to me project I have a few things to modify but as of now I am certain she will do what I wanted. |

That's a great looking pit coz. Mine is a bit of a fuel hog as well, I don't use a guru, as I didn't think it would make much of a difference. Having never used one, I don't know how a guru affects fuel usage. If you have some insight into this, let me know. |

FastBall,When you get everything tuned in with the Guru it should reduce fuel consumption. It will keep a steady fire only sending air to it when the temp drops a couple degrees below the set temp.On my old unit I know that after I started using the Guru that the fuel consumption improved. As many times as I checked the temp after I got it up to temp I believe it never varied more then 2 degrees unless it was after opening the door. |

Actually there was not near the smoke ring I usually get on the other cookers. There was enuff to give it some color.I am working on how much wood to add, using lump I get enuff smoke flavor just not near as much of a ring.I am sure as I use her more I will get it where I am used to.I delivered 8 of the Butts this morning and the other 6 will go to work with me tomorrow as a treat for some of the folks who helped out on this project as well as some of the key dept managers who allow our band of misfits to build our projects. We usually have something going on all of the time.Raiings for the bosses son in law, toolboxes for some of the guys ,etc. Just keepin the wheels lubed. |

Grease those wheels with a little pork fat. Works every time. Got to love it when the management allows you to work on your own projects on your own time. |
