Great how-to Norco. The only way you could improve on that is to show up at my house. |

Thanks for you setup info Mike .. I spied your pits over at the Brethren .. I cant believe that thread .... Just wish I could search without handing out cash ..
I do have a couple questions ... ( Imagine that )
Is high heat needed ?? Or can I just give them some glossy tremclad ? I'm guessing High Heat is needed for the higher temp cooks ??
I guess it depends on the drum , but did you have do cut the a couple inches off of your kettle to make the kettle lid fit ??
If a guy was to use a flat top lid would you recommend a 2" exhaust pipe or just a few holes drilled into the lid ??
Thant should do for now ... |
I used 600 degree enamel spray paint which is not the high heat stuff most use. I'm never going over 350 (at least on purpose) so I figured it was worth the gamble.
My lit fit but only after I cut off the rolled edge. My drum was a closed top anyway. I took extra care to sand the edge smooth with a ginder, then a belt sander and finally some hand sanding. My next two are going to use a knockoff kettle for the lid and I will probably have to cut the top off the BBQ to act as an adapter.
If the lid has the bung hole already in it a piece of pipe screwed in seems the easiest and nicest looking. I may yet build a flat lid UDS and what exhaust I use will depend on the drum. (no bung = 1/2" holes)
Mike
As a side note you can search any site using Google with the right syntax.
site:www.bbq-brethren.com UDS
Will search the brethren site and return only UDS hits. Other boolean terms can be used as well.
site:www.bbq-brethren.com UDS -fatty +build +lid +exhaust
Will return all UDS hits on Brethren site with mention of build, lid and exhaust but will leave off all entries with reference to a fatty.
My Google-foo is strong. |
