The plan for Saturday is to get the Pit and the fire box welded into place. the reverse flow plate cut and installed and the bottom set of racks cut, welded together and installed. Then it will be off to my mother-in-laws to smoke up some pork butt for the church and her birthday. unfortuneatley the smoker will not be ready to smoke in for this trip. |

On Saturday got the Heat Transfer tube and the smoker welded together. so now the smoker and fire box are one.
Welded the angle iron into place to hold the reverse flow plate. Got the Reverse flow Heat plate cut ad rough fitted into place.
Welded the bottom racks together and rough fitted them into place.
Now I have to finish all of the welding of those items into place and then start working on mounting the door and welding the smoker into place on the trailer.
Man there is a lot more small and tedious jobs to do then I had thought. This has been a great learning experience.
Pictures to follow when I get the chance. |

6" gap at the end of the Reverse flow plate. going to take the advice I read and will weld some expanded steel over the gap so nothing can fall to the bottom of the smoker. |

Me in the smoker grinding. as you can see there will be plenty of room to smoke meat! after all the racks are put in I estimate there to be approx. 4600 sq inches (32 sq feet) of cooking space. |

Moving right along Chris. Are you planning on framing the door opening with angle iron as that will need to be stiffened up some. You will have no problem with the heat and smoke getting into the cook chamber with that tube. Are you putting a damper in the heat transfer tube to help with temperatures? |

I welded flat stock to the door to stiffen it up and to cover any gaps. The current plan is to put fire place door gasket around the door and us latches to seal the door. Yes there is a damper in the heat transfer tube. This is to help with heat control and because the plan is to build a vault smoker/oven above the wood stove. Since that unit would be smaller the damper in the heat transfer tube would allow me to isolate the large smoker from the vault when I just need to cook a small amount. |
