Here they are for all to view Coz. Interesting concept. Have you tried a fire in it to see how it works?

The grease drains will be in the left side of the floor. There is 1 1/4 " of pitch to the florr.I will drill the holes in the corners after the floor is welded 100% as to help with distortion. The Chute is just sitting there for the picture so there hasnt been a fire yet.We did take one of my buddies nasty cigars and he blew smoke into the ash chamber and with the top of the chute plugged up there appears to be a natural draft up through the delivery tube.I also sent a set of pics to Jim Ball the fella who built the "Yellow Jacket cooker".I am interested in his thoughts. |

Now how are you going to get that nasty smelling cigar smoke out of there? |

Is this a final concept for the ultimate Stumps clone?
I assume that the firebox and chute are going to be attached to the main cabinet portion of the smoker.
Jack - just chompin at the bit to build a Stumps clone.

I think it will work well too, but am inexperienced enough to question the need to punch the heat in mid-chamber. I know it is better there, but is it needed? That diagonal pipe will be hot. It will be a place where a lot of heat will be lost and it will be difficult to insulate. If not insulated, it will be difficult to keep painted that close to the firebox. Since it is kind-of out of sight, rust has the potential to get a foothold there.
I had though about piping the heat from the firebox into the center of the cabinet with a removable (for cleaning) pipe; like a tuning plate works. It'll be less complex to build and easier to maintain. That diagonal pipe will also be a challenge for less experienced fabricators.
Also, I'd extend the coal chute up over the top of the cabinet. It'll have more capacity and be easier to tie into the main cabinet to stiffen then entire assembly.
Just some rookie thoughts from a guy who has never seen had the oppotunity to play with a Stumps.

You're doing good; keep doing what you're doing. I don't want to comment since clearly a functional knowledge of thermal dynamics isn't welcome here; it makes people mad. PM me if you want more information. |

Jack, the stumps style side entry works fine but I am a little on the lazy side about rotating racks etc and decided to try this after seeing the Yellow Jacket smoker.Whatever I did or didnt do on my first clone I have a terrible hot spot in the corner where the heat entry is so I thought what the heck most of my material is scrap from work. The heat/smoke tube will be insulated and closed in.the chute is close to 50" tall so capacity on this unit shouldnt be an issue as my first one was 44" and will run 16+ hours with a bigger cook chamber. If this works as I hope I am going to build another and mount these 2 on a trailer.2nd one will be a little bigger.I havent made any more progress to speak of as work and my friends farm are using up my time.
Boggs if I understood all that mumbo jumbo I would be glad to listen to it all day long but when folks start in on theory and that stuff my ADD kicks in and its like WTF is he saying ,we do appreciate your knowledge even if I dont have a clue. |

Coz,
I'm glad to hear that tube will be insulated, but glad I'm not doing the work. <grin>
I'm a tad concerned that this is the blueprint for the new Super Stumps Clone, as I don't get my material as scraps from work and my welding time is tight.
My suggestion on the height of the chute was more to be able to attach it to a solid portion of the cabinet (the top edge) and get it to clear the top for easier loading.
I've never even seen a Stumps, real or clone, so I'm not one to criticize your build. With a wife, kids, ski patrol, etc., I'll be looking to simplify my build, so I'm asking questions when I see stuff to ask about.
Thanks for filling me in,
Jack |

Yea but the problem starts when someone who doesn't understand thinks they're the heat police. They start it, I get in trouble. |
