Im wanting to go gather some applewood to start seasoning but not sure what works best- can I use any variety of apple in Manitoba? Crab apple etc??? What options do I have for other types of wood- i know elm is a no go. |

Crab apple is all right any hard wood mostley is good myself my choice is nice dry well seasoned white Poplar easy to get and a nice mild smoke taste.  |

Thanks Barry, theres plenty of that to go around too. For my UDS I would guess I would want smaller peices- up to a few inches? |

Yes all you need are fist sized chunks in the UDS. |

Just make sure it's at night and you use a handsaw OK? I don't want to be an accessory to grand theft arbour. |

Jason if you use a lot of BBQ sauce it really doesen't matter if you use Oak, Poplar, or the shingles off a shithouse roof you won't be able to tell the difference anyway  |
