Not much of a mod . No welder was used . Rolling Eyes Handles are for lifting / shaking your charcoal basket etc but leaving still a 2 piece . Not sure if Ill ever need to use the WSM bottom as a grill or not ?? This mod wont allow that . but sure makes it handy for any basket work you may need ..

I use the bottom of my WSM as a grill for steak using lump for fuel. It's a really hot and is a great fast cook grill.

I found that when I moved from charcoal to lump, I no longer needed to shake the ashes down.

Good point Jack . Thats kinda the reason I never welded anything down . I may and probably will want to grill with that some day .

Well I happen to know that the first place Chef's Choice entry was grilled direct on the charcoal bowl of a WSM Wink
