So the heat deflector. I know I want it two ply and slanted away from the fire box but how big? My chamber is 40 tall"x28"x28". |

Not sure about the heat deflector but I like the fan intakes! |

On my clone I made the heat deflector about 3" narrower than the cooking chamber and 2" shorter than the length. When put in place it was tight to the inner wall above the heat inlet and about 1.5" away from the door and rear wall. Hope this helps. |

Thanks, Jim. What are your thoughts (or any one's) on the drip pan. I thought about getting fancy and sloping the bottom to a drain and mounting a pan under the smoker. On second thought I can't do that because that part of the smoker may act as the wheel well on the trailer. I'll end up having a flat bottom and putting disposeable pans in the smoker.
Moving to the exhaust stacks. I know I need at least a 5" stack. The issue is that I'm using material that I have on hand 4" and 2". What are your thoughts on using either (2) 4" stacks on each side or a 4" and a 2" for each side?

If you have stuck to the sizes on your original drawing, then I would think that the 4" exhaust would be large enough. For the drain, why don't you run the drain line out the side of the cooker, then you could extend it if needed and drain to a bucket. This would ensure the grease is out of the cooker chamber and therefore no danger of fire. Just a thought. |

Wow, great build so far! I like the way our members here think outside of the box.

Hey Peckie, it has been over 2 weeks without an update. What's happening? Did you finish it and are busy smoking, so forgot to tell us? |

sorry guys, I forgot my camera last weekend when I left Sioux Falls and went up to Watertown . Thats where I'm building the smoker. I've had many design changes on the trailer. The latest is that I'm putting the axles right under the smoker.
There will be more pics after this weekend. |
