I would strongly recommend that you make that diverter a double layer. Cut another piece exactly the same and then put them together with at least a 1/4" space between. I would just use some 1/4" nuts for spacers and weld them in. This will make cleaning the plate a lot easier and help to prevent fires associated with grease dripping on it. The air space prevents the upper layer from getting as hot as the bottom. Now is the time to do this. Otherwise your pit is really looking good.

Well, the build is pretty much finished except for the prep and paint. Here are a few pics of the almost final product.

Thanks to the wife, who works for Valspar, I got a really nice charcoal grey paint with alot of metal flake, it should be sharp.
I'm doing a little body work to it right now and looks like Sunday it will go in the paint booth.

Looks great. Are you going to put a piece of aluminum checkerplate above the ashbox door. This is the hotest spot on the cooker and the paint will take a beating there. I would go at least 12" above that door and right across. Plus put a 90 deg bend to help deflect heat away when the door is open. So the piece should be the width and be 12" x 1" angle. I hope you know what I mean.

All I have to do is put the handle on the side and put the charcoal chute lid on and it's done. At some point in the next couple weeks the main door will be repainted, buddy had a little problem. This weekend will be the seasoning and biscuit test. I need to thank everybody on this site. I have enjoyed this build and my buddy at work has a new idea we may play with.
