I like a coffee cup very discreet. Learned it from my Uncle and he was a pro. |

Now that the holidays are behind us we can get back to the shop.
After building the frame for #2 the steering on #1 looked ok but not really what we were after. So we unbolted the cabinet and took a couple steps back on #1. Tonight Gregg got the steering setup complete for #1 and once a few welds are cleaned up it will be ready for primer and paint.
#2 has had the grease drain and pan added. The door was put on, hinges, latches, handle, gasket and thermometer were all installed. #2 needs to be cleaned up but is ready for fire. after that, the cabinet will be removed and the frame needs to be painted.
Hopefully this weekend we can haul these outta the shop and get some smoke happening. Still haven't come up with nick names for these things yet.

MRM does sound good. Or GCM--Golf Cart Microwave. What speed do you guys think those could be towed at? Might just have to put lights on those. |

Looks like we may just be able to cook something this weekend.
Got both units tore down, frames cleaned up and prepped, primed and painted. Got most of the odds and ends tidy'd up. All the holes we made in the units have been sealed up, all the welds have been cleaned up, all that is left is to reassemble and light the fire. Oh and we need to come up with an idea for a handle so we can pull these things around the yard.
HONEST GREGG, I DONT KNOW WHERE YOUR CUP WENT!!!

Today Gregg got the MRM finished up, loaded it up and took it home Should see it crankin out ribs on Sunday.
I got mine finished up and made a temporary mount for the auger and fan control.
Grabbed some beef ribs, 3 racks of St louis, some spares and a couple brats to throw on there for snacks and away we go!!!
This thing worked almost flawlessly. We had a problem at the beginning where the firepot was too full of pellets and had to scoop some out, you can see the mess of pellets in some of the pics. Other than that, once this thing got cookin it was incredible.
Not sure if we just havent had bbq for a while or what but these ribs tasted amazing.
The best part of the build tho was was getting this thing dialed in and having the bbq crew there to help with the first cook. Having Darrel and Gregg there tonight to break this unit in was definitely the highlight of the build for me.
So here you go Jim, here is your food pron.

Now that is what this is all about. Good stuff you guys. Now I guess there will be 2 more teams on the Manitoba circuit? The only thing I noticed is that the grills have the rods going sideways and I thought it might be better running them front to back to make it easier to "slide" meat in and out of the shelves without having to pull the shelf out. Just the way the FEC runs theirs. Now that Greg has his named Robin, what is yours going to named? Or are they both MRM's with a number attached? No. 1 and No. 2 |

Thanks guys,
I dont think Greg or I will be branching off from Burnside anytime soon. Its alot like the mafia, we know too much and once your in, your in for life and the only way out involves a pair of cement shoes. haha
So you noticed the racks huh? Well there was a slight mis calculation and the racks come up a bit short when we put them in with the rods running front to back. Must have been a red cup in the way when i was measuring. Theres still more racks to be made so the next ones will go in the right way.
Still not sure about the name, probably end up just calling it #2. |
