I mounted my main door yesterday and was curious how much pressure you guys have on the hinge? I compressed the gasket when I mounted it and screwed it down, when I close the door it I start to have to push it pretty good when it's about 6" from closing. Will the gasket relax or give a little over time or should I adjust now before paint?

The gaskets will flatten out over time. I have to really "lean" into my main door to get the first latch hooked to get it closed. It is not a 1-hand operation to close the smoker.

Mine is pretty tough to close as well but it will flatten out and get better.

It will flatten out, especially after paint and intense heat. I'm in the process of replacing my fiberglass rope due to powder coating, and a friend getting the pit over 500 degrees.

Scootr 14 - So should I have the smoker power coated before I put my gaskets (rope) on mine?

I would definitely do the powder coating first.

Most definetly. I spent alot of time putting the fiberglass rope on, and now I have to redo all of it, cause it has powder coating on it. With the intense heat they use to bake it on, the rope has become rigid, flat, and has lost pretty much all of its flexibility.
