Hello All,
I've been lurking this forum and another looking at all the builds - Well a I decided to build a stumps. For the last couple of weeks I've been attending salvage auction looking for material.
Week 1 a grabbed 25 25"x25"x5" drawer units 14 gauge $7.00 for lot.
and this week I picked up (16) 22"x14' 1/8 for $5.00 each at the auction.
With the above and a trailer and frame I already had. I started prep work.
Day 1 Material Prep
I plan to cut and weld these into 4 8"x14"Tall and 1/2" thick walls for the firebox. 4 section = 1/2
The scraps for the above cuts leave 8 sections that are 6"x14"
I'm gonna double these and make a square 6x6x14 inlet tube.
** Question: Does the inlet tube have to have holes on the sides?
For the ash box I've cut 5 of the sheets into 11x14 and I'll double the walls to create 1/4 think panels.
Next I have to prep the 14 gauge drawer units to remove the white factory coating. I started one.
I'll cut 20"x25" panels and create my inner and outer skins
Anyone see any problems with my plan of action.
Cost as of 7/10/2010
$7.00 Drawers
$80.00 1/8 Panels
$15.00 cheapo 7" Grinder (flea market)
$5.00 Wire Wheel Cup
$25.00 12 Saw Blades |

That looks like an incredible amount of welding and prep. I was kinda lazy and bought almost everything new in the sizes I wanted. |

Update 7/24/2010
Spent most of today welding pieces to get the desired thickness. (See first post - I know it's alot of welding but I'm enjoying myself )
Completed - assembly of inlet tube.
Started putting together Ash box.

Do you have any updates on your smoker build? I am currently getting ideas and I would like to see how yours turned out. |

Finished product looks good, as does the ribs and chicken. You will get many hours of enjoyment from your new cooker and the satisfaction that you built it yourself. |
