just changed to the p80rs2.

quite different sounding.

Is it possible that a change in headunit would cause the bass for DA to become more boomy? without touching the gain for the amp ?

It's all a matter of gain matching of your amps and your HU.

Your previous HU may have adjustments already made to your HU to match your amp gain.

There is no default plug and play. In default, all HUs comes with the gain level usually set at 0 which needs gain matching adjustments with your amp. All other tuning has to be re-tuned as well

I suspect the bass boost or some other "enhancement" feature is left ON in the P80 Smile

what uncle bob said. With a new HU, u need to retune ur gain. usually done using oscilloscope. After then, only u can comment on the differences. Very Happy

the bass boost is set to off.. he showed me duing the demo..
when he on the bass boost, it became more boomy.

I will be retuning the gain. I'm quite surprise with the improvement in the bass..

And the speakers have officially run in.. sounds better just before i switch the HU.

with this being the case, i am thinking of going active again. the result surprises me. I dont believe the installer used an osciilosope duing the first gain tuning.

new headunit sure look better than my 2 yr old 9887 .. but the buttons are kind off confusing..

Alpine and Pioneer are not on talking terms Laughing

Their functions and controls are totally different, even TA methodology is also different.

Well, Pioneer always tends to be more boomy than Alpines, and yet Alpine has better resolution in details.
It's a trade off…to what you want.

I've used both before (well not RS2, just the old P80), and i do agree that both sound different, but i would go as far as saying the Pioneer is better than the Alpine. They're just "different"…that's all…it's all down to individual preference.

yup.. but the P80 looks more tunable..

more things to play.. L/R independent..

well , the installer was confident that the pioneer will sound better than my alpine after the tuning.. i hope its true.. Laughing

starting to miss the vocals from alpine already.. Sad

Time alignment is independent of the speakers that you use. We use time alignment to achieve certain staging and imaging, regardless of whether good or bad speakers are used.

Just like in order to stop a car, I need to apply brakes, regardless of whether it's a Cherry QQ or a Rolls Royce. You don't go around asking are brakes really needed for a QQ?

I don't think anyone will take in a cheap 2Din CHina brand DVD…a 2nd hand P80 will be around $300 so there's really no need to trade in anything..
No point buying brand new these days…you'll end up changing in no time when something else better comes along hehe...
