He got a mid-bass at the door doors and a subwoofer at the boot. That's what he was confused about which frequency is playing by which driver. Right? Yoong?

Dunnounme has answered that question if I am not wrong as to which driver is playing what.

Uncle Bob : You are right. Knowing the driver to play at which frequency is 1 thing.
When a 12" woofer plays 100Hz the thumping effect will be greater than a 6" woofer plays at 100Hz.

Most of our bros here do not cross subwoofer at 100Hz, then you have yourself a singing SW, which usual SPL folks will probably do that. We usually cross them below 60Hz or usually at 50Hz or lower. So SW only plays low frequencies.

Uncle Bob : You are right on this.
But I guess this is only applied to subwoofer, not woofer. As now I crossed my woofer @80-100Hz, even my installer asked me to crossed them @200Hz(a mad fellow but with >30years of knowledge).
Owned a Soundstream subwoofer before and I found it just not my taste.
Wankie : sub cannot crossed to 1000Hz..... Only woofer can. That's the reason why I ask bro Yoong use wiki to search for meaning of subwoofer and woofer.

Dunnounme has answered that question if I am not wrong as to which driver is playing what.

All this while, my shallow understanding of woofer & subwoofer is by the size, 8" below is woofer & 8" above is subwoofer simply because the bigger the diameter, the lower it can play low bass note.
From definition in Wikipedia:

A subwoofer is a woofer, or a complete loudspeaker dedicated to the reproduction of bass audio frequencies, from perhaps 150 Hz down as far as 20 Hz, or in rare cases lower. Subwoofers, also known as "subs", are used to augment the low frequency performance of main loudspeakers. Subwoofers are constructed by mounting one or more woofers typically between 8" and 21" in diameter in a well-braced wood or plastic cabinet.

So, my understanding is quite close Laughing

I was confused by the significant role of subwoofer. 10 years ago, I had my ICE w/o sub; today, I have a 12" sub with huge box in the boot, yet I don't feel significant difference, & I just want to have a sub becos everyone has one sub, blindly I got one installed. I slowly learn in past 3 months that it is that tiny 6.5" front "woofer" that plays the bass I always wanted in pop songs, not the sub!

Rarely people get a subwoofer in home hifi setup; even a bookshelf speaker in the right room acoustic & alignment can play good bass!

My last bet in my setup is to get a powerful sub monoblock amp to drive my sub to the max!
I'm still waiting for my amp in the ship from Italy to S'pore (bought at ebay Italy) Laughing . Previously I had bought Genesis Profile Ultra P1 & Audison VRX1.500 & LRX1.400, but never got chance to try them out & already passed to my brother in S'pore Laughing Laughing

Welcome back, bro. Did doctor advise you to stay away from ICE nuts after operation, to avoid big "chi-kek"? Laughing Laughing
You & me same same, got subwoofer headache Laughing
Hope you will find the cure to your subwoofer headache soon; BTW, I'm still in dilemma... Wink

Yoong : Did you see the woofer's defination also(then only you will understand the true meaning between 2)?
For home setup, it is depend to what people needs actually. Sometimes a sub still needed when your other drivers cannot gives you hard deep bass.
Anyway I bid for a Lightning Audio Strike monoblock for USD23 then only I know that RM drop like mad(1USD=RM3.55)

yoong: don't force a sub to play what it's not suppose to play and don't force it to play louder than what the music requires, just like forcing your boy to eat what he hates most, he will puke, your music will be in a mess, just like the puke Laughing

Try playing some tracks with low notes for a few days with your sub off, then play the same tracks again with the sub on. Then decide whether you want to dump the sub away. Laughing

Yoongnc,
Your P80 has a mute switch for all your drivers and you just try to mute your SW to try out what bro dunnounme said. You never know what's you have been missing until you switch your SW off.
