To prepare you to better understand the P80 head unit, you can always download the Owners Manual from pioneer Singapore website www.pioneer.com.sg/storefront/manual/DEH-P80RS.pdf to study it first.

If still cannot get, can always go to Pioneer USA to get it. From there you can have a list of Pioneer HUs, from olders till latest. But you have to register account for it.

kaypo a bit here... wonder if the rest leave the amp of the HU on or off? or is there any benefit of doing either way?

I turned mine off, didn't really detect significant discernable differences... so wonder if anyone else has a different experience.

I turn mine OFF coz if my rear stock coaxial speakers being connected, may start singing and interfere with my front stage? Dunno if this internal amp off or on makes any difference if you run active (Network mode) - being by default is off if running active regardless?

This is the explanation from the manaul

This unit features high power amplifier. However,
in particular system, external amplifiers
are used instead of internal amplifier. If you
use external amplifiers in order to establish a
multi-amp system, and don't use internal amplifier,
it is recommended to turn off the internal
amplifier. Turning off internal amplifier
reduces the noise that comes from the behavior
of internal amplifier and fan.

anyway..

cheers and happy icing...

These are the specs of the internal amp:
Maximum power output ....... 50 W 4
Continuous power output ... 22 W 4 (50 Hz to 15 000 Hz, 5% THD, 4 W load, both channels driven)

Hmm... wondering what you got up your sleeves... pushing front speakers?

2008 is the year for USB, BT support. But then I think the gold RCA is an advantage also, just imagine we buy a near high end HU(mine is 9650) and comes with red/white RCA pre-outs? On the Pioneer HU's knob, I agree that it will spoilt fast(lucky mine only disallocated and after few knocks, it ok back already)

Uncle Bob, you missed out that P80RS2 has a copper chasis?
Anyway based on the spec, I feels that it is not worth to get it(nothing much enhancements if compare to other brands).

That was not published in their newest Pioneer 2008 preview catalog.
The metal finishing is only slightly darker than the earlier model. Did you have the website that says it's copper chassis?

Got the full specs from Pioneer US website.
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Source/CD-Players/DEH-P800PRS?tab=B
I don't think that US HU with have major different with Asia HU, only the number, the rest will be almost the same.

Yes.. the U.S. model DEH-P800PRS says Copper Plated Chassis and have Button (Key) Illumination: Switchable Blue or White lighting which the Asian model doesn't have.

Yes, I see the preview catalog already. Hope that P80RS2 do have a copper chasis as that is just a preview only.

Import U.S. Head units to use here, take note of the radio frequencies. The US sets all only have odd number frequencies and you will have problems receiving most radio stations. Also the next important issue is bringing back to Pioneer in case for repairs. How will they handle this?

Well, if the US sets are atleast 40-50% cheaper, no tax imposed, I will buy it as I got a repairer near my house that can do repairs with a reasonable price.
