ABC Bulletin Board - PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS *BEFORE* EMAILING THE BOARD ADMINISTRATOR

In order to join the ABC bulletin board, you need to complete the following two steps:

1) Register: Follow the link to the bulletin board webpage and click on the “register” link at the top of the page and follow the instructions. You will need to select a username. ***Registration with the bulletin board is SEPARATE from your registration with the ABC website, though you should try to use the same username for both***
2) Email an introduction to the board administrator: CentralBoard@abcontario.ca Please include 1-2 sentences to explain why you wish to join the board. You *must* include the username you selected when you registered with the board in your email message.

Once your email introduction has been received and approved, your username will be added to the General usergroup so that you can read and post messages. ***This may take a few days as I do not check the board admin email daily, particularly on the weekend and in the summer***

Membership in the General usergroup gives you access to all the board forums except the Twice Exceptional forum. Members must request membership to the Gifted2E usergroup in order to access the Twice Exceptional forum.

Active member participation is required to sustain a bulletin board community. Unlike the ABC website, bulletin board content is dependent on the contribution of its members. Please note:

- members must post at least once within 3 months of joining in order to retain their membership with the bulletin board
- membership with the bulletin board is good for one year; members can “renew” their membership with the bulletin board by visiting the board and posting a message.
- threads that are inactive for over one year are pruned from the board.

Members who let their membership with the board elapse can renew their membership with the board by going through the two steps above. However, they may need to select a new username.

Each member is given a rank based on number of posts (eg: kindergarten, high school, graduate student). Post more and watch your rank increase!

Annie
Board Administrator

I just wanted to remind everyone that threads are pruned after one year of inactivity. If there's a thread that you refer to or think needs to be saved, then all you need to do is write a post in that thread and it will be saved for one year from that point on.

One side effect of deleting posts after one year is that if you join the board, post an introduction, and never post again, then after one year, your introduction will be deleted. I remove all members who don't post within six months of joining the board. Once your post gets deleted (after one year), you will appear as having never posted within one year of joining the board and your membership will get deleted. For this reason, you need to make sure you post at least once/year in order to keep your membership active.

Nobody can accuse us of being like Facebook and hanging on to people's information indefinitely!

Annie
